Mobile Ceramic Coating in Chicago: What to Know Before You Book

Oct 8
2 min read

Most of our ceramic coating customers are in McHenry County, but Chicago jobs come in every month, usually for a new car, a weekend driver, or a vehicle that just spent a winter getting hammered by road salt and stop-and-go traffic. Xclusive Detailing is a fully mobile service, so for the right job we'll bring the whole setup into the city instead of asking you to drive out to us. If parking or garage access makes that tricky, free pickup and drop-off is always the backup plan.

Why We Make the Trip for Ceramic Coating

Ceramic coating and paint correction are the two services worth the drive. They take real time and skill to do right, and the payoff, a finish that resists swirl marks, water spots, and the grime that Chicago streets throw at a paint job, holds up for years instead of months. We don't make that trip for a basic wash, but for a full coating or correction job through our ceramic coating service, it makes sense for both of us.

What a Mobile Appointment in the City Actually Looks Like

A coating job isn't a quick in-and-out. Between decontamination, paint prep, any correction work, and cure time, we're on-site for a while, so garage or driveway access matters more in the city than it does out in the suburbs. If you're in a condo building or a spot where we can't realistically set up and work for several hours, that's exactly when the free pickup and drop-off option earns its keep. We take the car to our setup, do the work right, and bring it back.

What to Expect Before You Book

We start with an honest look at the paint. If there's existing swirl marks, light scratching, or oxidation, paint correction happens first, since coating over damaged paint just locks the damage in. Once the surface is right, we apply the coating stage that matches how you actually use the car, whether that's a multi-year ceramic coating or our graphene option for longer-term protection. Either way, you're looking at a cure period before the car gets driven hard or washed, so plan the appointment around a stretch where the car can sit.

Is It Worth the Drive?

For the right car, yes. We've made this same case for customers out in Lake Zurich and Winnetka, see our Lake Zurich ceramic coating guide and our guide to coating in Winnetka, and the Chicago jobs follow the same logic. We also recently coated a McLaren 720S out in Crystal Lake, which is a good example of the kind of work we travel for. If your car's worth protecting properly, we're worth the drive.
